For those of you that think Occupy Wall Street is a cry for help solely said by “the white folks”, get real. Stop thinking in terms of skin color. Occupy is not about that. We are all in this together for we are all human. We need to start acting like it.
This movement does not and will not discriminate.
ok, I’m down with this movement, but this is obnoxious
when racism stops existing then I’ll “stop thinking in terms of skin color”.
It will never stop if you continue with that mode of thinking.
…are you serious right now? So institutionalized racism is all in POC’s heads? OOOOOHHH OK
Have you (not talking to vanillaandlavender) been in those chat rooms on the livestream?? SO MUCH RACISM, SEXISM, ABLEISM. Seriously if you think race or gender or whatever shouldn’t be addressed you might as well get the fuck out of social justice.
A) It is a fucking FACT that minority unemployment rates have ALWAYS been out of control. Environmental racism has ALWAYS been an issue. Wages have NEVER been equal. Discrimination (especially in the real estate sector) has been RAMPANT. ALWAYS. Why wasn’t anyone ‘Occupying’ in response to that?
B) Suddenly, the white middle class are afflicted by the same conditions as minorities have endured since obtaining their freedom post Civil War and now it’s time to protest, apparently.
If you are going to tell me that Occupy Wall Street is somehow catering to more than just middle class whites, you are ignoring basic historical facts. The entire purpose behind this “protest” is that, SUDDENLY, it affects white people that are PRIVILEGED enough to camp out in a park for a fucking month and hold signs in hopes of creating change.
I read some story about a man who quit his job in California to come out and protest for almost a month so far. He’s been selling his belongings to afford to stay. Doesn’t that sort of defeat the purpose of the protest? There are people that would literally KILL for a job, and this dude is just up and traveling across the country after quitting his job to protest joblessness (among many, many other things). If that’s not privilege, I don’t know what the fuck is.
Even going beyond that, I’m reading all this sanctimonious bullshit from naive college kids condemning people for not coming out and protesting. Again, protesting is a privilege. Many people live in fear of being deported. Many people could lose their jobs over an arrest. It’s not something we can all drop everything and do.
It’s just such an elitist protest. It’ll die down soon, and everyone will laugh at the clowns who tried to uphold their convenient version of capitalism.
Damn finicky just got so real, I like it.
protesting is a privilege
